Hello, I am Sophie
I'm a project manager, a parent, and an expat based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually unfolded into a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't in the plans for the long run. As with many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar processes, routines, and expectations. Everyday chores seemed more tangled than necessary.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, habits took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began crafting something that felt secure.
Why I Built Gentle Village Current
Most online content was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was missing was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Netherlands.
